So long sausages, we'll miss you!

The days of waking up with a banging head from the night before to a full English breakfast with three sausages and four rashes of bacon have come to an end…

New research has shown that eating one sausage a day can raise the risk of bowel cancer by a fifth.

The research conducted by the World Cancer Research Fund shows that eating 1.8oz (50g) of processed meat a day - the equivalent of one sausage or three rashers of bacon can significantly raise the risk.

Bowel cancer claims 16,000 lives a year in Britain, with only lung cancer with a higher mortality rate.

With new research coming out every week about how something we seem to enjoy is increasing our risk of some fatal disease, are we doomed to a future of organic, vegan diets and face masks as we walk to work?

Goodbye Tim 3

tim3

I just wanted to write a quick post to say goodbye to my most dedicated reader and good friend Tim, who is off to the USA to study for his PHD in material science (I think I have that right??). His stories about rolling perfectly shaped clay balls and wrapping wire around tubes have had me in stitches. Have an amazing time Tim and don't forget us! And most importantly don't stop reading me...

MTV bans Gnarls Barkley's video

Shiny shiny's Friday fun is my secret pleasure on Friday afternoon's when the world of work all gets to much. This weeks web fun comes from Gnarls Barkley's new video. Apparently MTV has banned the video as it didn't pass their epilepsy tests. Viewers were also complaining it was causing nausea and making people feel sick. But as we all know, banning something just makes us want to see it all the more and for some reason, people seem to enjoy things that might make them throw up (the words milk and gallon spring to mind). So here you go...

Blogging without due care and attention

pd_wine_070522_ms Last week Stuart and I had a chuckle over an article in the Yorkshire Evening Post about how the conservative party have been warned about blogging whilst under the influence of alcohol. Apparently TORY candidates at local elections in Leeds have been warned not to post internet blogs when they are drunk. If they do find themselves writing while under the influence, they have been advised to save a draft and then wait until the morning before deciding whether to send it. I’ve always been told that a little drink can help get the creative juices flowing but I think the principle here is the same as text messaging whilst a little merry. We are all guilty of thinking that posting that blog or message was a good idea when the alcohol strips down our inhibitions and gives us the confidence to tell the world what we really believe but when the morning comes and the memory of the night before comes flooding back its all too late.

I think the whole thing was trying to be a bit tongue in cheek, but bloggers out there everywhere should heed this warning before they switch on their laptops after cracking open that second bottle of wine. In the mean time, I want to see where these drunken Tory blogs lie, as they sound like some interesting reading.
